Nuala Cassidy

Nuala is an Occupational Therapist who began her career in Mental Health in the 1970s. She has been managing multi-disciplinary teams since 2007 and since 2012 has been the manager of the specialist Personality Disorder Service in the Northern trust (NHSCT, one of 5 Health and Social Care Trusts in Northern Ireland).

Since then (2012) the service has grown from 4 to 10 staff, with two treatment programmes running side by side (MBT and DBT); she herself is an MBT practitioner. The service also has an Occupational Therapy job clinic for graduates from both programmes, and creative groups from time to time

Nuala’s passions are training staff about Personality Disorder, tackling stigma, facilitating reflective practice, and since 2023, BPD Awareness Month creative projects intended to tackle stigma every year. The working group of artists with lived experience formed for the purposes of the yearly creative projects has decided to become a charity and are currently applying to the Charity Commission NI.
